Today's Wedding Planning Question, "How do you choose a color scheme for your wedding" is a good one with a few different answers. Some experts suggest you begin by finding examples of flowers, bridesmaids dresses, and decor. Once you have your inspiration photos, you SHOULD find a common color theme within them, and that should be your color scheme. Another option is to find a color that the bride looks good in, since so many photos will be taken with those colors surrounding you, and find complimentary colors with that main colors. The color scheme should have between 3 and 5 colors - any more colors than that will create too much confusion and look like a rainbow or the inside of a crayon box.

Today's Wedding Planning Question is "What are some affordable party (wedding) favors?"

We're given the tip of there being tons of options out there and to check on The Knot Shop, Etsy, and Amazon. Regarding actual favor types, I've seen shot glasses with the couple's names and wedding date printed on them, I've seen bottle openers shaped like a key and the end where the bottle is inserted is shaped like a heart (the key to my heart), I've seen stemless wine glasses and mini mason jars with the couples names and wedding date printed, I've seen hand fans (for an outside ceremony) with the names and wedding date printed on them, and so much more. A google search gives you TONS of examples for wedding favors, some less expensive than others.

Good evening, folks! Today's Wedding Planning Question is, 'Do people still send formal wedding invitations with traditional wording?'

We've got an answer on the pic: some people still use traditional wording, but it's ultimately up to the couple to decide on their invites. From my experience, 99% of couples use traditional invitations with formal wording based on who's paying for the wedding. My fiancé and I plan to use informal invitations based on our wedding theme, but I haven't seen many other couples or clients opt for that direction with their invites.

Today's "Wedding Planning Question" is I want my wedding to be memorable. How can I make my wedding stand out without breaking the bank?

Oh, this is a great question, one that I think every couple strives for, even if they aren't conscious of it. First of all, your wedding is about you as a couple. Don't hire a magician or a fire dancer if they don't interest you. If you and your fiance are really big football fans, have each table be named after a football team instead of numbering them. Have the guys in football jerseys with the words ""groom," "best man" on the back.

If you and your fiance are really into music, make that stand out with a live band instead of a DJ and maybe have the wedding party do a flash mob dance after being introduced. Name your tables after musical artists or musical instruments or different composers or genres of music.

The point is, take what you and your fiance love and incorporate that into the wedding. Your unique interest is what will make your wedding memorable.

Today's "Wedding Planning Question" is essentially asking if I do my own bar, will it save money?

The answer is a big fat no. In addition to buying all of the beer, wine, liquor, and fruit garnishes, you will have to worry about having enough ice, having the proper mixing tools, glasses or cups. You'll also have to set up the bar with enough storage space for all of the above, hiring someone(s) to man the bar and ensure you have enough stock of everything to be able to reasonably serve 90% of the guests attending at least 2 beverages, and be prepared to offer non-alcoholic drinks to the other 10% of guests attending.

It's HIGHLY recommended to hire a bartending service or use the one that comes with the venue to avoid the extra cost and extra stress.

Today's Wedding Planning Question is "Why can't you guarantee flowers will be a specific color?"

The only flowers that can be guaranteed a specific color, meaning the same color as the rest of the flowers in a bunch or bouquet, are silk or sola wood flowers as they go through a dying process to give them the specific color. But even different batches of these types of flowers can be slightly different from a different batch due to the amount of dye used, the drying process and the material itself.

Real flowers are grown in nature, which has its own uniqueness which can cause more color to develop on one flower that sees more or less sunlight, it's growing conditions, even the soil its planted or grows in. Some couples can get very upset seeing slight color variations when the florist comes to deliver their flowers to the venue, but couples need to have an understanding that nature is not perfect and trust that their florist is going to do everything they can to get flowers that look as close in color as possible to put in their arrangements.

We kick off this week's Wedding Planning Question by asking "How do we find the best venue?"

The need for a venue is there because you want a place where friends and family can gather with you to celebrate this wonderful occasion that is your wedding. Depending on the number of people you're inviting, you will need either a small, medium or large size venue that accommodate the number of people who attend.

You will need to make sure to schedule tours at multiple locations to get a feel for what you really want and inquire for a quote so you know how much it will cost to give you the feeling and look you want, so you can perhaps make adjustments to the look and feel of the venue you want.

Don't forget that location is also important! The venue's location should be close for the bride & groom to be able to easily arrive and cut down on traffic on the road and potential for stress. It should also be easily accessible for the majority of your guests, only with out-of-town guests needing to book a hotel.

Destination weddings are completely different though and only need to focus on the look and feel you want as well as the ability to accommodate your guests. Most destination weddings take place at all-inclusive resorts to make it easier for planning, but expect your guest list of attendees to be much smaller than a wedding held in town as not as many people can afford the travel costs associated with a destination wedding.

Today's Wedding Planning Question is a one that really makes you think: "What elements will make the biggest impact on ambience?"

An important factor in setting the mood for your wedding is LIGHTING. Think about it, when you go to a reception, are you more likely to be dancing and having a good time with friends and family if the lights are turned all the way up and it's bright as the sun? Now picture the opposite - are you likely to have a good time if the lights are too low and you can barely see the person or food in front of you?

Another big impact on the ambience of a wedding is the decor being unified with the other elements of the aesthetic. Having a wide range of decoration types, more than 3 or 4 colors for decor to be and things that don't go together doesn't give the feeling of a cohesive wedding and well thought out plan.

Much of this is personal preference, but the most important thing is having an officiant (religious or non) and saying your vows (traditional or written by the bride & groom). Think like a wedding at City Hall, stripped down to the bare necessities. Everything else is extra.

Today's Wedding Planning Question asks "What vendors do you need for your wedding?"

Usually, each wedding has a venue, an officiant, a caterer for food, perhaps a separate bartender service for alcohol, a baker for the cake or other dessert, a DJ or Band for entertainment, and a florist.

Many of these items can be DIY such as a family friend baking the wedding cake or cupcakes, a relative offering the use of their backyard for a venue, etc. It really depends what YOUR vision is for YOUR wedding and the budget you have to book those vendors. If your budget is tight, make a list with your spouse-to-be of he must have items for your wedding, and see if you can accomplish the other items with the help of friends and family.

Today's Wedding Planning Question is "Do you need to include the dress code on the invite?"

In general, the answer is no, you do not need to include the dress code on the invitation. However, if you are throwing a Black Tie or other themed wedding (all white, casual, etc.), it would be suggested to include it on the invitation or along with supplemental information included with the invitation or on the wedding website.

Today's Wedding Planning Question is "Do we need to invite plus ones?"

A rule of thumb is that if most people that are being invited are couples, married or seriously committed to each other, it's polite to extend the Plus One invite to close family and friends, but generally not to extend it for that friend of a family member that your parents invited that you barely know who they are.

BUT, be warned, from experience with RSVP management as a planner, there are people who will take their invitation for themselves and RSVP for two people, giving themselves the "plus one" invite, so keep a close eye on those incoming RSVPs and be ready to give a kind explanation that the invitation was meant solely for that person. Weddings are expensive, especially catering which is typically calculated at a cost per person. Allowing multiple "plus one" invites when a dinner plate costs $100 per person (or more!) creates a costly extra expense for you!

Another complicated question today - one with several possible answers. You could pick one wedding resource and follow those suggestions explicitly. You can listen to your mother or mother-in-law with their... perhaps out-of-date advice. Or hire a certified wedding planner who has not only learned, but also seen and done a great deal of weddings and a ton of experience in the wedding industry. Psst, if it were me, I'd go with the one that's educated, has their ear to the ground, and has connections to make the things you want happen. But that's just me.

Today's Wedding Planning Question is "How much does a wedding really cost?"

The answer can be complex. Most of it depends on the number of guests you're inviting, but other factors include the type of wedding (Indian Weddings last several days with multiple events, so they tend to be most costly), the glitz and glam you'd like to include; the venue, as well as other vendor's costs, add into the total amount you'll spend for a wedding.

A big trend at the end of 2024 that looks promising into 2025 and possibly 2026 is Micro Weddings (weddings with smaller invite lists), and this can be one of the most cost-effective weddings we'll see. Other cost-effective options include DIY options and of course utilizing friends and family for venues, floral arrangements, catering and, of course, the wedding cake (or other desserts like cupcakes, macaroons, cookies, donuts and even fondue fruits).

Today we begin a series called: Wedding Planning Questions.

Today's question involves invitees.
Many couples allow their parents to invite a certain number of people, especially if they are paying for the wedding or pieces of the wedding. It's suggested to allow both sets of parents to invite 10% of your total estimated guest count, meaning 5% per set.

Couples should first invite their close family and/or friends into their wedding party, then form their guest list from remaining friends and family with the mindset of "who can we not imagine getting married without," add the 10% list from parents and expect that 10-15% of the total estimated guest list will decline the invitation or not respond at all.
